Conscience or Conscious?
Before you reach for Wikipedia, I already did. With all the talk about the Mayan calendar ending and possibly the end of the known universe, I thought it was time to get a better understanding of the thought patterns leading up to this potential shift. I mean, if we’re all going to become one or whatever you believe could happen, I thought I’d at least like to know how to spell it out.
So it turns out that you can have a guilty conscience in your mind but to be aware of the Mayan Calendar ending in 2012, would take a conscious thought or effort. Confused? No? Good. Let’s meditate on this a bit and make sure we do this right. Apparently, the Mayan Calendar doesn’t give us a second chance. So let’s push out our collective consciousness by understanding the difference between the two words. At least I now know for sure how to properly spell and differentiate the two.
From Wikipedia:
Conscience is an ability or faculty or sense that leads to feelings of remorse when we do things that go against our moral values, or which informs our moral judgment before performing such an action.
While…
Consciousness is a characteristic of the mind generally regarded to comprise qualities such as subjectivity, self-awareness, sentience, sapience, and the ability to perceive the relationship between oneself and one’s environment.
