So I needed to post videos longer than 10 minutes on YouTube. I can fit about an hour within their 100 meg limit. A director account was exactly what I needed. I’ve been using the Director account to upload videos that are still under a hundred megs but today learned of a policy change from their tech support:

Hi there,

Thanks for contacting YouTube. I apologize for any frustration, and
understand that our messaging has been confusing. We’re no longer offering
the option to upload videos longer than 10 minutes for any account.

I appreciate you taking the time to write back as we highly value feedback
from our users. I have passed along your comments to our product team, and
I hope you’ll find a way to creatively use the ten minute limit to your
advantage.

Hope this helps,

Sylvian

So if I’ve had the chance to video you or your band and you don’t see the video, it’s because my last seven videos have been held up at YouTube. I would have felt better if they sent our a note or something.

Anyway, I’ll be posting all videos at BigIslandFun.com in the future. A new version of the Big Island Fun will be released on April 15th. Please go check it out in a couple weeks. We’re also releasing BigIslandAds.com at the same time. If you’re an advertiser, please contact Monique at BigIslandFun.com to learn about our new “Web Presence” program. We’ll be distributing our traffic among paid advertisers when the new site launches.

If you’re a newsletter subscriber, you’ll get a complete update when the new site goes live.

More later.

  1. [...] Personally, I think that’s a load of hot air. Our video was 13 minutes long and was less than a quarter of the 100 MB file size limit. So, I don’t see how this has anything to do with the difficulty of getting sub 100 MB files. I did some looking around and it looks like others have gotten the same problem. And another. I then found this story from The Register. It talks about Youtube’s issues with people posting copyrighted video clips and why the 10-minute cap was a response to that. Yeah, well perhaps they caved, because now even Directors can’t go past 10 minutes. [...]
